Coneflower tough love
Coneflowers are the toughest beauties in my summer garden. They are the great native color unifier: when black eyed susans tilt the bed too yellow, coneflower brings the wild back into balance. I carved this linoprint back in May, before coneflower made her riotous arrival to my summer garden. The carve was perfect, but she felt, well, meh. The black and white contrast that elevates other carves just didn’t do her justice, and so she sat in the studio, patiently waiting. And then in July she showcased her ombre perfection and the idea arrived fully formed. I carved her petals and crown from scrap lino to create a tricolor print that captures her brilliance. She was worth the wait.
